I never thought I’d write a story about an entertainer—a failing entertainer at that—and yet along came Lola Darcy from Lola and the Single Dad and I love her to bits. She’s one of those triple-threat types who can sing, dance, and act. Give her the spotlight and she’ll entertain you. She’s Peter Allen and Hugh Jackman and there’s a little bit of my bubbly flatcoat retriever in there too.
Lola’s well aware that her enthusiastic need to perform is too much for some people, but humour, resilience and her godmother’s unflinching support gets her through.
Resilience and humour—I latched on to those qualities for Lola because I admire them so much. And then I gave her a hero who needed a ‘Lola’ more than most. A grieving widower with a one-year-old son to care for and a one-man business to run. A guy who takes one look at Lola and doesn’t know what hit him.
You and young Ollie need her in your life, Ned. You just don’t know it yet. Stick with me and I’ll show you how it goes😉.
Lola and the Single Dad releases on June 16, 2022, on all platforms and in print.
