I love this question and I have a few favourite answers. The Aussie beaches of Northern NSW, home for Christmas, Belgium for chocolate, Maastricht for cherry beer, Hong Kong for the insanely good hotels (that I don’t stay at), Istanbul for the spice markets. And then there’s the standard reply for when I just can’t decide.
Take me somewhere new.
When it comes to story settings, I’m always looking for somewhere new. Sometimes I have just enough knowledge of a place to set a fish out of water story there. Sometimes I’ve a deeper understanding of setting because I’ve lived there at some point over the years. Sometimes a place just doesn’t let go and I keep going back for one more fix.
I set my latest contemporary romance in Turkey, more specifically Istanbul and the coastal party-city of Bodrum. There’s something about Turkey that makes me breathe deep and want to fling my arms wide open. The pretty trinkets and the apple tea. The beauty on top and the underbelly beneath. The history. The hustle. Baklava.
I hope you enjoy Lena and Trig’s romance in ‘What The Bride Didn’t Know’. And I really hope you enjoy their travels through Turkey.
